PERSONALITY TRAITS
Nova is a very unique and special girl. She had a horrible start to life very early on. Because of this she needs a person(s) that will give her special attention, lots of patience, not force her into unfamiliar
situations and let people know not to interact with her until she is ready. She needs to know they will
not abuse her. Nova is not a dog for everyone – she needs a very special kind of understanding
human(s).
She needs:
• Consistency with <positive reinforcement> training and routine
• Time to adapt to new situations/things/people – all must be taken slowly
• Needs to be on leash when meeting new people, letting her use her nose to smell people from a distance.
• Due to her excitement level needs slow intro to other dogs
• Child-free environment
She is:
• Medium-high energy level
• Dog friendly
• Improving meeting new people
Once you bond with Nova she will be your best friend. She is very loyal and she will let you do anything to her once she trusts you. You will have a very faithful companion. When she gets past her
fears she knows her commands and she walks well on a leash. It just takes consistency and some time
but it’s worth it.
Are you interested in meeting Nova...understanding her needs in order for her to succeed? If so, please
contact Dan the Dog Trainer (above). She is a wonderful pooch – you will not be sorry!
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 2 years

Geppetto- DEC 2024 PAWS PRISON PRISON PROGRAM GRAD!
Geppetto is available for adoption! Geppetto is kennel stressed and in need of a foster or adoptive home.
Feast your eyes on this beautiful creation we call Geppetto, Gepp for short! You can call him anything you want, he is not name driven, but sign language /command driven! This guy is THE missing piece to your boring life. He is constantly giving us a peek into his funny side, his personality is truly one of a kind, like his ears! Where can you find a side ear flop THAT cute?!
If you haven't ever considered a deaf dog, we ask you to consider Gepp! Deaf dogs are often even more focused as they can't hear distracting noises! Replace your audible commands with hand signals and visual cues, and they pick it up VERY quickly. Gepp already has the basics down and is ready for more. He is very smart and learning together is also very rewarding.
Gepp is a PAWS grad! Yep, you heard us right. And he is GOOD at commands. Check out his CGC video below where he passed with 100%! 10 separate tests within one final test, and he aced them allllll.
You have a few balls to play with him in the yard? He will be STUCK to your side. He loves to play ball. He also loves to walk!
Gepp is a GOOD playmate, he loved playing with all the dogs at PAWS. He is a rough and tumble player who also appreciates a good rest between play rounds. Gepp and Biscuit were best buddies at PAWS, and still get to hang out and play at times, which helps combat kennel stress for them both. They have been waiting too long!
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 1.5 yrs
COAT LENGTH: Short
HEALTH: All rescue dogs are vaccinated, altered, and micro-chipped.
GOOD WITH: Other dogs; older (12+) respectful children; NO cats or other small animals

Bruce
Bruce is available for adoption!
Thank you Jada for the handsome photos of Bruce!
Volunteer Jada reports-
"This handsome stud melts every heart that is lucky enough to meet him. Bruce's personality is really starting to shine through as he settles in. He is an 11 year old, mostly blind senior, but you would never guess after spending even just a few minutes with him. He is spunky, playful, confident and best of all so incredibly sweet. Bruce takes a little bit of time to get used to new environments but once he gets a lay of the land his adorable personality shines. Despite being mostly blind, he adapts quickly. Bruce can be a bit picky when it comes to food and isn't overly food motivated, unless it is really high value. But he is very responsive to his name and is fantastic at following your voice and responds quickly to being called. He enjoys soft squeaky toys and really shows his playful side with them. Bruce loves to cuddle up on the couch and burrow his snout right into the crook of your arm. He is such a sweet boy and everyone that has met him has fallen head over heels for him!"
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
You really can't get more of a perfect senior dog, than Bruce. We are not just saying that.. he is a GEM.
Bruce arrived to us from Stockton Ca where he was found as a stray and sadly not claimed. It is mind blowing that no one came to pick up this sweet soul. He is such an EASY HAPPY guy!
Despite at 11 years of age and him losing his former life and everyone he ever knew and loved, Bruce is resilient, super friendly to all humans and not reactive to other dogs. Bruce is partially blind (or almost completely blind), but he still can have a great time, is playful and fun and enjoys toys. His hearing is on POINT!
Bruce would do best in a home solo or with other dogs that respect his age and can understand him bumping into things, both other pets and people. He can locate his food bowl and water, and doesn't have accidents in his kennel or an office area he was decompressing in when he arrived. We would say potty training he has down to a T.
Someone snatch this older gentleman up and give him the best golden years of his life! He in turn will give you the best years of your life with all his love. No puppy behaviors to work around, Bruce is turn golden key!

**What the shelter veterinarian had to say about Bruce's vision: Doctor suspects Progressive retinal
atrophy (PRA) is an inherited eye disease that leads to blindness in dogs. PRA is a non-painful condition that tends to progress slowly over time, often starting with a decreased ability to see well at night. While there is no cure available right now, most dogs adapt well to their vision loss and continue to have a good quality of life.

Mikey- FEB 2025 PAWS PRISON PRISON PROGRAM GRAD!
Mikey is available for adoption!
Mikey is a recent PAWS prison training program graduate!
PAWS report -
Weekly Summary Week 7:
This week was great for Mikey! We spent lots of time shaping tricks, making videos, taking pictures, and getting prepared for his final test. Mikey is such an excellent dog and it was a privilege to work with him this round. I know he’ll find his forever home in no time!
2/8/25 Daily Journal
Today we had our final pre CGC preparation test. Mikey scored a 9/10. He had a good test, but during his sit and down he wouldn’t down so I just skipped the command because he wouldn’t pay attention and during his recall he came towards me then lost engagement and focused on sniffing the carpet. Overall, Mikey did so good this round and I am proud of the dog he is.

Biscuit- DEC 2024 PAWS PRISON PRISON PROGRAM GRAD!
Biscuit is available for adoption!
Bis is kennel stressed and in need of a foster or adoptive home!
CAT FRIENDLY and LITTLE DOG FRIENDLY- (he thinks he's a tiny lap dog himself) This BIG guy is a big sensitive sweet baby. He doesn't realize his size, we speculate he is mixed with a giant breed such as Great Dane.
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Biscuit is a big goofy guy whose limbs seem to have a mind of their own, flying in all directions as he gallops around the yard. He can be slow to warm up to new people. But once out in the yard where he has the freedom to create space for himself he opens up quickly. Once you are in with Bis, you are IN! Biscuit is both toy and treat motivated and a PAWS GRAD, HE KNOWS A LOT OF COMMANDS! CHECK OUT HIS CGC test below!
Former Foster Family- “Biscuit is big and bouncy but when tuckered out (just a walk or a swim in the water) is a great snuggle. He's great on leash, totally house trained, and tolerates his kennel very well (he eats in his kennel, sleeps there overnight, and is kenneled when left alone). He is a lover of all dogs (he's in foster with a rescue director so has lived with about 30 dogs over the last 4 months) and is pretty respectful if dogs don't want to play. He is absolutely safe with little dogs, we recently had an adult 6 lb-er and she absolutely dominated him. Biscuit is living with 4 cats, has no interest in them, if they often end up sleeping on the couch together.
Biscuit loves water, loves fetch and tug, and gives great kisses! He's very human attuned and eager to bond with his someone. Biscuit does startle at loud noises/commotion and can be a nervous fellow in new situations. He spent a week with an 7 year old and was almost immediately comfortable with her. He’s good in the car, mostly quiet, oozes loads of joie de vivre and has become a wonderful, proper pet. He is not destructive in the house and doesn't have any situational anxiety that we have seen. His recall is perfect and he enjoys lots of off-leash time too. He has been in foster since 4/6. He was at risk for euthanasia in the Pecos Animal Shelter.”

Ranger- Current PAWS STUDENT!
Ranger is available for adoption!
Ranger is just about as sweet as they get! This boy loves to literally lean into his people. He arrived to us on the tail end of a doggie cold (URI) but has since recovered. He is a bit unsure of the outside world but adapts with some encouragement and patience. We are pretty sure he is suffering from a broken heart, so many do when they lose "their people". He is non reactive when walking by the others kennels. He is a perfect size, about 55ish pounds.
This boy is a treasure.

Lavender- FEB 2025 PAWS PRISON PRISON PROGRAM GRAD!
Lavender is available for adoption!
Volunteer Jada reports-
"What a joy, sweet Lavender is. This gorgeous girl is sure to put a smile on your face with her goofy antics and playful spirit. She was very excited in her kennel was was easy to manage. Lavender thinks that the play yard is the absolute best thing in the world. She was overcome by the zoomies and zipped around the yard with the biggest smile on her face. Lavender is very affectionate and loved to be close and to be pet. She loved playing with toys and was also very treat motivated. She can get a little impatient waiting for treats and will try to jump. But she was easily corrected. Lavender is up at the PAWs program and is going to do so well. They will surely fall in love with her and I know anyone who meets her will do the same!"

Thor- Current PAWS STUDENT!
Thor is available for adoption!
Thor recently arrived and then was off to the PAWS training program!
BBBR volunteer Jada assessed him before he left for PAWS and reported-
Thor is an easy going guy majority of the time. He walked easily out of the kennel room pass a bunch of dogs barking at him with no reaction. In the yard he checked me out with neutral body language, not stiff but not super loose and wiggly.
He does show higher levels of excitement around new dogs and pulls strongly toward them. He may also get a bit vocal when he cant go over to check them out. While we didnt get to see off leash play from him he didn't seem to have negative reactions during his side by side walk or sharing a fenceline with other dogs. He was pretty pushy in trying to get to the other dog and while trying to sniff them. I would bet he will be a pretty rough and rowdy player.
He takes treats very gently and is food motivated. I did not experience any signs of resource guarding. He is also toy motivated and had a blast with a soft squeaky toy. He was fairly gently with it and I had no problem grabbing for it. He seemed interested in tug but has a pretty soft mouth. He easily traded toys for food.
He is a sweet boy that is affectionate once you give him a little bit of time to get to know you. His body language is much looser and excited once he knows you. I didn't see really any negative behaviors besides jumping up and putting his front paws on you when you first see him. I am sure everyone will love this guy!

PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Arrow is a super-loving, playful boy who loves being around people! He is dog-friendly and enjoys off-leash doggy playgroups. Shelter staff & volunteer observations:

He has been so brave even though the shelter is very scary for him. Arrow has done well with multiple dogs, female and male on leash and off leash. He is very friendly and shows his doggy manners. Plum- Current PAWS STUDENT!
Plum is available for adoption!
Plum just arrived, we are getting to know her better, we will update her bio soon!
The shelter reported-
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Plum is bouncy, happy-go-lucky, energetic, playful, treat-motivated, and eager to please! She is good with other dogs and enjoys off-leash doggy playgroups. Plum is leash-trained and knows the “sit” command. A round of positive reinforcement training classes would be most beneficial for this young gal so she can be the best little puppy girl for her new family or person. She could easily live with another dog.
As for living with kids, she can get mouthy when excited and she is a bit of a bowling ball in a china shop, so we recommend older (10+), respectful children, as she could knock little ones down. She has not been tested with cats, small dogs, or other small animals.
What Shelter Staff & Volunteers Have to Say:
Good gracious me! Could a dog be more adorable than this silly little Bully girl? Say hello to Plum, the happiest little land hippo in the world! This little sugar plum is an absolute cutie pie. Her silly antics will have you laughing in no time.
She does this little butt wiggle dance when she is happy and then freezes, looks at you from the corner of her eye, and then…ZOOMIES! Her little legs just keep slipping on the floor as she tries to get traction, spinning in place. We laughed so hard we had to stop videoing her!
Plum can get a little nervous with new things and people, but once she warms up to you, she is all hugs and kisses! And I do mean hugs—she will grab your leg with both her paws, look up at you with big brown eyes, and smile. Her whole face lights up with happiness when she has your attention and then yes…off she goes to zoomie!
She likes her toys, knows how to sit, and is treat-motivated, so teaching her new things will be so much fun. She participates in doggie playgroups with gentle, easy-going male and female dogs and offers a little adorable flirty light play when she feels comfortable.
Who can see themselves with her sitting next to them watching TV, playing in the park, or just being the silly, fun-loving pup she is? There is a lucky family out there that is going to have the best time ever with Plum in their lives!

Sky- NEW ARRIVAL!
Sky is available for adoption!
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Volunteer Jada reports-
Sky is an easy going girl who is so sweet and loves to be the center of attention, without being pushy to get it. She currently is awaiting knee surgery and other than hoping around on 3 legs, you would never know based on her very friendly and joyful demeanor. She does not let much phase her, she loves getting out of her kennel to sniff around the yard and cozy up for some love. We are limiting her activity until she is all fixed up, but she definitely wants to cut loose, run around and play. I suspect that once she is back to 100% she will be a spunky, playful girl who enjoys toys and long walks. Sky is very food motivated and will quickly offer up a sit or shake to be rewarded, which will make training much easier. Sky is the perfect mix of playful and chill. She will undoubtedly be up for a fun adventure but more than willing to settle down, cuddle up and watch a movie. As long as you don’t forget the popcorn!
** Sky does have a torn CCL and will need a CBLO, knee surgery. The rescue will cover this cost. She would love a comfortable home to recover in!
If you are interested in meeting Sky, please submit our pre-adoption application.

Brock- FEB 2025 PAWS PRISON PRISON PROGRAM GRAD!
Brock is available for adoption!
Brock is a new PAWS graduate! We are so proud of you, Brock!
Brock is a beaut, he loves to play and "work"! He loves snacks and being told what a good boy he is. He is eager to please humans.
**We want to note how incredibly amazing it is that all the dogs learn as much as they do, in just 8 short weeks. It is a lot to pack in. Brock scored a PERFECT 10/10 on his PREP CGC test, but the day of the final CGC, he scored 6/10. It isn't because Brock doesn't know his skills, he was simply having an off day, which is OK. We are still proud of you Brock. We too, have off days and know you are a smart star of a student!
To watch Brock perform his CGC test, click link below!
Weekly Summary Week: 7
Brock got a chance to work and play in a new environment, the snow, and he seemed to really enjoy playing in it but the work with the cold ground was to be expected with all dogs they don’t respond well to it he did execute the commands but was hesitant on it. Brock also has his final CGC test this weekend and we are confident in the fact he can do everything the test has to offer and we will maintain his commands and behavior through the rest of our time with him.
Daily Journal Entry: 2/06/2025
Brock was able to play in the snow and he seems to get the zoomies when he gets to walking in it. It would be good for him to be able to be off lead as he explored the world of snow. He also likes chasing snowballs as they are thrown in his direction. It’s quite funny.
BREED: Bully breed blend

Boulder- NEW ARRIVAL!
Boulder is available for adoption!
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Boulder just arrived and he is one handsome guy! He is still settling in and getting familiar with his new surroundings but doing great so far. He is such a sweet boy. He enjoys walks and does well with loose leash walking once outside of he building, he pulls a bit on the main floor but mainly due to excitement. In the yard he spent the first bit taking in all the new smells but once that was out of the way he would check in for pets and some attention. Boulder is treat motivated and knows how to sit. I brought out some toys for him to play with and while he was initially interested, he was still pretty distracted by his new environment. I am sure in a few days his play drive will surface once he is a bit more settled. He has a super easy going and fun personality that I can’t wait to see fully emerge as he gets more comfortable. Don’t wait to meet this guy, I am sure he will be swooped up quickly!
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 1.5 years

Duncan- URGENT-STRESSED
Duncan is available for adoption!
Okay ya'll, this one hurts.
Duncan is back. Many of you may remember this spunky boy from years before. His second return in his short life.
The first adopter had him for a couple years, the last one had him for FIVE.
Last adopters expanded their family and no longer desired to keep Duncan.
Despite his pictures, Duncan is NOT doing well back at the facility. He is barking, pacing, panting - HOWLING for his family. He is so confused and does not understand what is going on. He is missing his humans.
Duncan's journey first started with BBBR in 2017. He is now approximately 10 years old.
Duncan used to enjoy doggy companions, but recent information provided leads us to believe that he needs to be an only animal in the home. He MAY do okay with a super passive, older pup. Duncan is not a candidate for a home with cats.
------
The first picture of Duncan and his friends at Lou's play group back when he was first with the rescue. The other pictures were taken by staff member Ashlee. You can see sweet Duncan's grey face taking over his beautiful brindle patch.
This guy does NOT deserve to be in a louder kennel environment.
PLEASE help us find him a home - quickly.
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 10 years
COAT LENGTH: Short
HEALTH: All rescue dogs are vaccinated, altered, and micro-chipped.
GOOD WITH: Possibly other older passive dogs; no cats or other small animals
